The Government of Canada launches Canada Summer jobs program for 2010
January 15, 2010
![]() GODERICH, ONT — Yesterday, the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, announced the launch of Canada Summer Jobs 2010, which supports work experiences for students and helps provide important community services. Canada Summer Jobs is an initiative that helps employers create summer job opportunities for students, and is designed to focus on local priorities, while achieving tangible results for both students and their communities. This initiative will provide funding to not-for-profit, public-sector, and small private-sector employers with 50 or fewer employees to create summer job opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 who are full-time students intending to return to their studies in the next school year. In 2009, there was estimated 113 summer job opportunities created in Huron-Bruce, and the program helped approximately 85 organizations in the riding. “The Canada Summer jobs program is one of the most successful government programs we have to offer young people,” said MP Lobb. “Our young people are the future of our communities and the relationships and knowledge developed through Canada Summer jobs will help them throughout their working careers.” The budget for Canada Summer Jobs in 2010—$97.5 million plus an additional $10 million from Canada’s Economic Action Plan—will be allocated across the 308 federal constituencies. Applications will be available on February 1, 2010, and must be submitted by February 26, 2010. Interested employers can apply online at www.servicecanada.gc.ca/csj2010, or at their local Service Canada Centre. |
