GODERICH, ONT — Ben Lobb, Member of Parliament for Huron-Bruce, recently highlighted federal support for the Municipality of South Bruce. MP Lobb made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.
The Municipality of South Bruce is receiving $50,000 to install automatic doors, an elevator and provide accessible washroom facilities at the Teeswater Town Hall.
“Our government is supporting people with disabilities and their families,” said Lobb. “Through the Enabling Accessibility Fund, this project will help people with disabilities by improving access to the Teeswater Town Hall.”
“This grant has given the Town Hall Renovation Project a real boost,” said Jane McQuarrie, fundraising volunteer on the Teeswater Town Hall Management Board. “Access to the Hall's handsome second floor theatre will now be a reality for everyone – not just the able-bodied. We are thrilled to receive this funding.”
The Enabling Accessibility Fund supports community-based projects across the country that improves accessibility and enables all Canadians, regardless of physical ability, to participate in and contribute to their communities and the economy.
MP Lobb also announced $13,400 for South Bruce Seniors Activity Programs. This funding will enable the South Bruce Seniors Advisory Committee in creating a seniors centre where they will organize games, exercise programs, dance and other activities for seniors
“Seniors are valuable members of society who contribute a diversity of skills, knowledge and experience to their communities,” said MP Lobb. “Through the Community Participation and Leadership component of the New Horizons for Seniors Program, the Government of Canada is supporting local projects that enable seniors to contribute to their communities through social participation and active living.”
This investment falls under the Community Participation and Leadership component of the New Horizons for Seniors Program, which encourages seniors to continue to play an important role in their communities by helping those in need, providing leadership, and sharing their knowledge and skills with others.
