Stimulus funding will continue to create jobs, boost local economy
MACGREGOR POINT PROVINCIAL PARK , ONTARIO – Ben Lobb Member of Parliament for Huron-Bruce and Carol Mitchell, Member of Provincial Parliament for Huron-Bruce today announced stimulus funding that will benefit local workers and the local economy in Saugeen Shores, and improve local infrastructure for years to come. Today’s investment of $740,000 in joint federal and provincial funding will build new buildings to increase the parks capacity and rehabilitate older structures and incorporate green building standards.
“I am pleased that our government is supporting MacGregor Point Park, this funding will not only improve the parks infrastructure but it will also create jobs and provide a boost to the local tourism industry, “said Ben Lobb, MP for Huron-Bruce.
“Today’s announcement for MacGregor Point Provincial Park is the latest demonstration of the McGuinty government’s commitment to strengthening communities and creating jobs in Huron-Bruce. This is a great opportunity for our local provincial park to upgrade its facilities to attract more visitors and area residents,” said Carol Mitchell, MPP for Huron-Bruce.
MacGregor Point will be receiving funding for two infrastructure projects. Up to $650,000 will be provided to replace the park’s 1970 comfort station. This new facility will house five showers and greatly improve the camper’s experience.
Additional funding of up to $90,000 will allow the park to construct new yurts. Yurts are tent-like structures which provide year round camping opportunities. They are a unique way for new campers to experience the out-of-doors.
“As staff at MacGregor Point Provincial Park we are proud to provide our campers with first-class facilities and outdoor experiences. We are excited to have these infrastructure projects which will greatly improve our capacity,” said Chris Tomsett, Superintendent of MacGregor Point Provincial Park.
Total estimated eligible project costs are $740,000. The governments of Canada and Ontario are each providing up to $370,000.
The Government of Canada’s contribution for this project is being provided through the $4-billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, a key component of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, which invests in construction-ready infrastructure projects that can be completed by March 31, 2011.
The contribution from the Government of Ontario will be from the two-year, $32.5 billion infrastructure commitment laid out in the 2009 Ontario Budget – Confronting the Challenge: Building Our Economic Future.
To date, the governments of Canada and Ontario have announced over $11 billion in joint funding for more than 2,700 infrastructure projects across the province to stimulate the economy and create jobs. During these challenging economic times, the governments of Canada and Ontario have taken steps to get shovels in the ground and funding into targeted infrastructure projects across the province.
