November 05, 2010

KINCARDINE, ON – Ben Lobb, Member of Parliament for Huron–Bruce; the Honourable Carol Mitchell, Member of Provincial Parliament for Huron–Bruce; Mike Smith, Warden of the County of Bruce; and Larry Kraemer, Mayor of Kincardine, today celebrated the completion of four important infrastructure projects in Bruce County.

“Our government is pleased to support bridge and roadwork in the County of Bruce, which will improve local access, safety and transportation efficiency,” said MP Lobb. “As part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, we are committed to creating jobs and enhancing the quality of life for residents through important infrastructure projects like these ones.”

“Our Open Ontario plan is supporting and strengthening our rural communities by investing in important infrastructure projects,” said Hon. Carol Mitchell.  “These improvements will support our local economy, create jobs, and make our roadways and bridges safer.”

"These bridgework and roadwork projects are great examples of the dedicated partnership between all levels of government,” said Warden Smith. “The County of Bruce will greatly benefit from the renewal of these important pieces of our public infrastructure here in the community."

The combined total cost of these projects is more than $5.8 million. The governments of Canada and Ontario and the County of Bruce have each committed more than $1.9 million toward the projects.

The Government of Canada's contribution comes from Canada’s Economic Action Plan, which provides approximately $12 billion over two years to modernize a broad range of infrastructure. These investments are helping to create and maintain jobs across Canada for the benefit of all Canadians, and will ensure the country emerges from the economic downturn with a more modern and greener infrastructure.

The contribution from the Province of Ontario comes from its 2009 provincial budget that is supporting more than 300,000 jobs and strengthening Ontario's economy.

Since 2007, the governments of Canada and Ontario have committed more than $13 billion in funding to over 6,400 infrastructure projects across the province to stimulate the economy and create jobs.
