FedDev Ontario supporting southern Ontario economic recovery

Blyth, Ontario — Ben Lobb, MP for Huron-Bruce, today announced that the Township of North Huron will receive an investment of more than $750,000 to construct a new Technology Building at The Emergency Services Training Centre through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).

“Our government is committed to creating jobs and supporting rural communities.  This investment will enable the Emergency Services Training Centre to attract more students and allow the community to strengthen and diversify the local economy.  The Emergency Services Training Centre should be commended for all their hard work and future successes.” said MP Lobb.

“Since opening in 2003, The ESTC has seen a non-stop rise in the number of fire and emergency personnel coming for training.  This support for a new Technology Building is a huge win for fire and emergency personnel as well the local economy that provides all of the meals, accommodation and related services.” said ESTC Coordinator, David Sparling,

This project will construct a new Emergency Services Training Centre (ESTC) to serve as an alternate Emergency Operations Centre in the event of a declared emergency. It will allow ESTC to increase its training season to twelve months a year from the current seven, provide appropriate facilities to offer educational programs to local students, and allow for the proper storage of ESTC’s fire trucks, air packs, ladders and related fire training equipment.

This project will be funded through the Community Adjustment Fund, a two-year, $1-billion national program aimed at addressing the short-term economic needs of communities hit hardest by the global economic recession. The approved project must meet the terms and conditions set out in the contribution agreement.
